Abstract:
Acid-base switchable solvents are a kind of green intelligent solvents in which the reversible transformation between hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity of solvents can be realized by acid-base. Treatment technology of oil drilling cuttings based on acid-base switchable solvent is an efficient, environmental-friendly, easy-to-operate and recyclable approach. In this paper, N, N-dimethylcyclohexylamine was used as the acid-base switchable solvent for cleaning the abandoned oil drilling cuttings, while acetic acid/sodium hydroxide solution was used to control the hydrophilicity or hydrophobicity of solvent for evaluating the cleaning efficiency and the recovery rate of amine. It was found that the hydrophilicity or hydrophobicity of N, N-dimethylcyclohexylamine could be reversibly controlled by acetic acid/sodium hydroxide solution, and the complete cycle could be repeated at least 4 times. The acid-base switchable characteristic of N, N-dimethylcyclohexylamine enabled the simulated oil to be well separated from the amine. When the mass ratio of N, N-dimethylcyclohexylamine to oil-bearing drilling cuttings is 3:1 or higher, N, N-dimethylcyclohexylamine can thoroughly clean the waste oil-bearing drilling cuttings. After cleaning, the oil content of drilling cuttings is as low as 0.21 wt%, and the recovery rate of N, N-dimethylcyclohexylamine is as high as 95%. The switchable solvent can efficiently clean drilling cuttings, and can be reused, thus reducing costs effectively.
