Abstract:
Objective Aiming at the corrosion problem caused by crude methanol with high moisture content in the storage tank, the anticorrosive coating for methanol storage tank was studied.
Methods The epoxy-phenol resin paint coating samples and inorganic zinc silicate coating samples were soaked in pure methanol and methanol solution with water content of 37.5%, and the appearance, film thickness, weight and infrared spectrum before and after soaking were compared and analyzed, including the microscopic morphology of the coating before and after soaking was tested by optical microscope.
Results The anti-corrosion performance of the epoxy-phenol resin paint significantly changes in both solutions. In a methanol solution with a moisture content of 37.5%, the epoxy ether bond is destroyed, hydroxyl functional groups appear, and the performance of the paint film decreases, resulting in damage to the paint film. The performance of inorganic zinc silicate coatings shows little change in both solutions.
Conclusion In aqueous methanol, inorganic zinc silicate coatings have stronger corrosion resistance.
