Dealing with catalyst temperature steeply rising in shutdown process of sulfur recovery unit

  • The temperature steep rising of Claus reactor in shutdown process is likely to lead the sulfur recovery catalysts inactivation, or even bring an accident. Therefore, to prevent the temperature steeply rising in time is a very important way to protect the catalyst, reduce the accidents and economic loss. Aiming at the temperature steep rising accident in shutdown process in Sulfur Recovery Unit of YPC in 2012, this paper analyzed the reasons. According to the type of oxygen-enriched burners that had been used, methods such as reducing the oxygen ratio of acid gas combustion furnace, flowing nitrogen into the reactor, lowering the furnace temperature and inactivating the catalysts were used. The CT6-4B sulfur recovery catalysts in the reactor were protected efficaciously. Now the system is running well.
